I'm still working on the rest of my South Africa blog, and I hope that at this point my awesome brother, Greg has gotten around to posting my Ghana pics…Thanks Greggy J.
Finished my mid-terms today! YAY! It feels good…the only difference is that at school when I finish my mid-terms I usually celebrate by going out that night…not so much an option here! ALTHOUGH…we have some fun "Mauritius Day" (aka make us feel better about the fact that we are missing Mauritius…Day) activities planned.
Poseidon has not listened…The seas are still rough as can be and we are still not going to Mauritius. To give you all some perspective, in the dean's memo from yesterday we read this: Sea Conditions: 5.0 meters or 16 feet (very rough)
Today we read this: Sea Conditions: 4.0 meters or 13 feet (still rough)
Last night (the night after we found out that we're not going to be stopping over in Mauritius) during the evening announcement we heard: Attention shipboard community, due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received regarding our decision to not debark in Mauritius, we have decided to cancel every remaining port and just sail around for the next month and a half…enjoy your pasta and potatoes!!!
…Even if you are bummed, you gotta appreciate the humor! Also, hearing that really puts things in perspective. By the way, about the pasta and potatoes comment…the food here as become a bit repetitive. At every meal there is some form of pasta, some form of potatoes, salad—and by salad I mean a lot of lettuce and not nearly enough vegetables—and some sort of meat…generally pork and/or fish, neither of which I eat. Today for lunch they changed things up a LOT and served chicken lo-main…so naturally, my friends laughed at me as I quoted my father in saying that "it was the best lunch of my life."
Anyways, I mentioned fun activities. Some nights the top deck offers drinks (beer or wine and a limit of three drinks per person…we really know how to rage here I know). Well, on these nights, there is no music played…EVER! In attempts to congratulate us on being done with mid-terms, and make us feel better about Mauritius they are playing MUSIC! Yes, you heard me..MUSIC!!!! DANCE PARTY! Everyone is VERY excited for this. Then…brace yourselves…tomorrow morning there will be a brunch from 10:30 to 1pm and then a BBQ on the top deck at night.
Mauritius Shmaurshitius, the MV explorer is going to be the place to be for the next 24 hours…but literally, we have nowhere else to go…
